Hi! My name is Roxanne, and I am a 27-year-old girl who grew up in Riverdale in the Bronx (I lived there until about 14), and then moved to Westchester. I graduated from college in 2017, and after school I traveled a bit, lived and worked abroad for a bit (in Mexico City), and then moved back home in 2020. I've been living at home since the start of the pandemic as I am currently in the middle of a career transition, but I am about to start a side gig in the city so I want to be closer to work, plus I am more of a city girl so I want to be closer to everything in general. I will also be looking for an additional part time job once I figure out where I'm going to live.
I am looking to move in with someone friendly, kind, and chill. I can be very extroverted and love getting to know the people I live with! But I am also totally comfortable with an introverted roommate who likes to keep to themselves.
The most important thing for me is living with a person with whom I feel safe and comfortable, and who feels safe and comfortable with me. Therefore, I want to be totally up front about what I need from a potential roommate, as well as what I am like to live with:
I am super respectful of any shared spaces and will definitely clean up after myself, and I would prefer that my roommate also respect shared living spaces, particularly the bathroom.
I am 4/20 friendly, although I will rarely if ever smoke in the house, and am totally fine living with a roommate who prefers that I don't smoke at all. I do keep and use edibles in my home though, so I would prefer a 4/20 friendly roommate.
I have a pretty flexible lifestyle, and may spend some days completely in the apartment while on other days I might prefer to work outside the home. I don't have a job where I have very regular 9-5 hours, so I can't necessarily guarantee what time I will come and go on any given day - it totally depends on what my schedule is for the week. I also like to go out on weekends and may sometimes come home late (although I will always make sure to come in as quietly as possible!) While I love that my lifestyle does not follow a strict schedule, I also know that this isn't for everyone, so I may not be a good fit for someone who prefers that those in their living space are in and out of the apartment at the same times every day or for someone who prefers to always have the house to themselves.
I work from home a fair amount and often take remote meetings from the house (including sometimes on weekends around 9 or 10 am), but would never take these meetings in public spaces in the home. I have been working remotely since the pandemic began (meaning I have long since invested in noise cancelling headphones) so I am totally fine with a reasonable amount of background noise while I am working. The only issue I generally have with noise is when someone plays music at ...like full concert volumes in the home. (I am totally cool living with a musician / music producer or anything like that but I do think we would need to work things out to make sure that my work schedule and their practice schedules don't overlap.)
I am super interested in filming / video editing as a hobby, which means during regular waking hours I may want to film in my bedroom. While I can't imagine I would ever need to film outside of my bedroom - and definitely not without asking first - it is something I want to be up front about in case it makes someone uncomfortable to have filming happening in their home at all.
I am a pretty social person so I am totally cool with company in the house and I love meeting new people. I am also totally cool with it if someone wants to have friends over for some drinks and music on a weekend evening, although I would definitely appreciate a heads up. I would also love to live with a roommate who is ok with me occasionally having a few friends over for drinks, and would love it even more if they joined us! (Although this is totally no pressure - I see you introverted roomates!) And I would absolutely give you a heads up and make sure you were ok with it before having someone over for drinks.
However, if I am living with someone who has an s/o in the house so often that they are basically an additional roommate I would like to know about beforehand and meet that partner before moving in, because I do think it's important that all roommates are comfortable with the people who are typically in their home. I would also want to make sure their s/o is comfortable with me.
Finally, I grew up in NYC (and watch way too much true crime) so I like to keep doors and any ground or first floor windows locked, especially at night. Therefore, I would prefer to live with someone who is on the same page about home security. In addition, I think it's very important that roommates respect each other's space. Therefore, I would never go into my roommate's bedroom without being explicitly invited to do so and I would ask that they do the same with my space (I know this may seem self-evident to, like, MOST people but there's always someone, and unfortunately I have lived with that someone.)
Finally, I would love it if before agreeing to live together we could meet up - ideally in person - and make sure we are a good fit for each other. And I know I wrote a lot so I totally thank you if you've read this far! :)
