I've been renting out rooms in my home for a few years now. Everyone pretty much keeps to themselves but it's always nice to have roommates with a few shared interests. I'm always open to meeting new friends but respect everyone's need for privacy. During the day I'm a chiropractor. I've been working out of a home office separated from the house. In my spare time I write fiction, play the piano/clarinet, watch silent films, game or study Japanese.

Room available in a very unique cottage. The home is situated on two large lots and surrounded by parks on two sides. One has a bike path/trail that leads to the Columbia river. The trail also leads to the Grotto and a view point on top of Rocky Butte. The house is full of character. It has a turret in the center with a winding staircase leading to the upstairs rooms. The main living room downstairs has an enormous window that looks out over Rocky Butte. All you see are trees. The house is full of windows. I’ve never seen an older house with this much light. The house feels far from the city noise and pollution but, since there is a freeway exit very close to the house, it is only a 10 minute drive from downtown. There are also two transit Max stations at either end of the bike path.
I live in house and rent out some of the rooms upstairs. I enjoy having people around. That said, a try very hard to get housemates whose personalities match. It’s a very quiet restful house. Everyone is very friendly and kind. At the same time, they value their privacy and mostly keep to themselves. The shared spaces are places where people read or study. Due to Covid most people entertain family and friends on in the large backyard or side yard. Another thing I should mention is that it’s also a very green house. I’m always looking for housemates who appreciate that and help to keep it that way. The house is clean and uncluttered. No one wears shoes. Everyone neatens up after themselves. I have a professional cleaner come by every other week to clean the bathroom, showers, kitchen, etc.
Large Room. . .This room used to be the old den library. It has wainscoting on the walls. The main one faces the backyard and the smaller one faces the side of the house. It has a very cool semi-private bathroom. Rent $825 +90 utilities). This includes internet, toilet paper, hand, laundry, and dish soap, gas, power, water, garbage.
Other Costs:
-One time security deposit: 1/2 of first month rent (unless there is major damage, this would obviously be refunded to you if you move out.)
-Application fee: $40.00 (You would not need to pay this until you have already visited the house and decided that it would be a perfect fit for you. The agency examines credit/criminal/rental history. A perspective tenant must pass this background check.)
Last months rent: can be paid in installments over first couple of months
Included in Rent/Utilities:
-Private bedroom (furnished)
-Professional Cleaning services 2x/mos. They clean the bathrooms, kitchen etc.
-Internet
-Electricity
-Garbage/Recycling
-Water (note: house is not connected to regular sewer and we are careful with water usage. I'm looking for a housemate who is green and doesn't take super lengthy showers or bubble baths everyday)
-Full access to Washer/Dryer
-Full access to a well equipped kitchen. This would include some pantry space and space in the refrigerator.
-a little extra storage space
-Garden space
-Gas (heating)
-Miscellaneous: toilet paper/paper towels/dishwashing soap/laundry detergent
