About Me

I am a recently divorced 40 yr old woman with a cool, creative, well-behaved (really) 9 yr old boy who lives with me for half of every week. I'm currently looking for a 3BR house to rent in the Denver area and another adult to share costs. Looking to create a positive home environment in a place that has the ample space, some upgraded amenities, yard + garden, garage, etc., that we've formerly enjoyed as a family, but which is next to impossible to afford in Denver as a single parent.

We are social and busy, primarily around my son's schedule, but need and appreciate down/quiet time every day. I'm an empath whose physical space needs relative order (understandable "daily living" aside). I am hopeful to join forces with someone who picks up after themselves w/o drama and can participate in house upkeep with a team-like attitude (aka, like a "grown up" ;) We appreciate up front + communicative behavior!
We love music, watching various shows, movies, sports, creating/making art, playing basketball and other backyard activities, dancing, chilling with our cats, watching/listening to the news, talking about world events, and enjoy the occasional get together. Events we go to around the city are usually art, dance, or music based, but definitely include athletic events of the professional teams here. We like to laugh, share, learn, listen, and watch.
My son is not some screaming obnoxious kiddo prone to meltdowns or other cliched selfish behavior. Yes, he's a kid, but also has some maturity as an only child where he can hold a conversation and/or appropriate relationship with adults in our orbit and older kids without difficulty. He gets along and is inclusive of anyone his age as well, assuming they are cool and just want to play/share the ball/game, whatever.  He is a thoughtful, smart, athletic, vibrant kid whose teachers, coaches, and other parents rave about (I am a lucky Mama).  I attempt to parent in the exact opposite manner I was raised, with deliberate intention.  Hopefully that clicks with some of you who read this . . .

We are politically left--this part is important to whom we potentially share a space. Empathy, decency, inclusivity, and honesty about who you are and how you move through the world means a lot. Providing good examples of those things for my son is important to me, but we don't hold ourselves or others to perfection either. The reality of the world is talked about with frankness (though kid friendly). I aim for joy, but ultimately balance, wherever we live.

I am a split social/introvert so understand + respect your needs to have your own space and private life, separate from ours. Ideally I would like to find a space that can give us all a sense of privacy in the actual physical layout. Please know I will honor whatever your needs may be in creating healthy boundaries, as I will need to do the same.

Hopefully you are: thoughtful and conscientious, willing to form connections and be included sometimes in meals or other things we have going on inside or outside the house, have a consistent ability to pay rent and utilities, and can honor us with earnest communication--written or spoken. I don't care if you have a weird relationship with your boss or family as I don't think that necessarily dictates who you are as a person. But I do think it's important you can articulate your needs or thoughts as an adult (sans passive-aggressive behavior) so we can all be on the same shared page. I honestly don't care if you're a mad scientist, as long as you can talk with kids as if they are real people. I'm happy to provide a recent former "duplex-mate's" contact info or the written recommendation she's provided about her experience living next to us and in sharing spaces--basement, laundry, yard, garage--including comments on my son in particular). Other roommate or personal references avail as well.

We are LGBTQ+ friendly, open to ppl of any gender identification, ethnicity, or background--my only goal is to create a cooperative, safe, restorative environment and desire that whomever is living with us to participate in that vein.

I am originally from Massachusetts, however have lived throughout Colorado for 26+ years. As my son currently attends a school near Louisiana & South Broadway, I'm looking for housing in central Denver or in the near-surrounding area of his school. Ideally: Baker (the neighborhood where we currently live--80223), Wash Park, West Wash Park, Harvard Gulch, Corey Merrill, University, but also open to City Park, Congress Park, Cheesman, Speer, Capital Hill, Lincoln Park, Auraria, Platt Park, Sloan's Lake, Westwood, Athmar Park, Ruby Hill, Harvey Park, West Colfax, etc.

Regarding COVID: We are happily compliant with CDC recommendations, if not more conservative in that regard due to some compromised health/auto-immune conditions that branched from my having thyroid cancer 9 years ago. We are both vaccinated and boosted. Mask wearing outside of the house in enclosed public spaces is still something we do, though flexible depending on situation or rates of infection. We are hoping to join forces with a housemate who is similarly concerned about their role in helping to slow transmissions of the virus and is of course vaccinated too.
We have 2 indoor/outdoor cats, one young, one old. I have ALWAYS kept a home that did not indicate upon entry that cats lived there--this is really important to me in terms of smell! I vacuum often so cat hair is mitigated, but lint rollers are definitely a part of our lives (I'm happy to share).  Also, I have multiple storage units full of furniture and housewares to use and share.

Hope to hear from you + combine forces for housing that serves everyone's needs. Looking to get settled for the middle/end of August into September. Much thanks--
