About Me

Hello! I'm a 31 year-old woman working for a conservation non-profit downtown and running a small social enterprise on the side. I'm also a photographer and amateur woodworker, and am generally into design. I like to make stuff.

On the weekends, I'm usually either out in the mountains—skiing, river rafting, hiking, mountaineering—or sticking around the city to work on projects, see friends, and relax.

On weekdays I typically work 9-5 and spend my evenings hanging out at home, sharing a meal with a friend, or working. Ordinarily I work from my office downtown Monday through Thursday and on Fridays I work from home. I typically travel fairly frequently for work and for fun. Nowadays during the COVID-19 pandemic, I work from home and am not traveling.

For me home is primarily a sanctuary where I can recharge. It's also sometimes a social space where friends will come over and a couple times a year we'll have a bigger get-together with more folks. The place has a lot of wonderful shared space and great personal space as well. I am looking for a roommate who is into spending low-key time together in the common area--hanging out, doing our own thing, listening to music, working on projects, reading, watching a movie, you get the idea. I like to keep things drama-free. I value thoughtfulness, communication, honesty, community, and a good attitude.

Available Room for Rent

Seeking housemate for beautiful 2BR Craftsman in North Cap Hill

I'm looking for a roommate for my 2-bedroom home in North Capitol Hill starting mid-May or June 1st. If it sounds like we could be a good fit, I'll be in touch to find a time to get together.

Covid-19 note: This is a challenging time for everyone, and I recognize it could be a challenging time to move. Let’s talk about how to make it easier!

Please respond with:
- What part of this ad stood out to you?
- What are your must-haves and hopes in a living situation?
- What are you passionate about doing in the world?
- Kitchens seem to be a place of great harmony or conflict in a shared home. What are you looking for in sharing a kitchen?
- What do you like to do in your free time?
- Any questions you have

Location:
- The center of Seattle! Ideal location for anyone regularly going downtown, South Lake Union, UW, any of the hospitals (Harborview, Swedish, UW Med, Seattle Children's, Virginia Mason, the VA), Capitol Hill, Seattle U, or the east side (Bellevue/Redmond/Kirkland)
- Super easy highway access--two blocks to both I-5 and 520
- Less than one block to the 49 bus line and a short walk to the 70
- Four blocks to Interlaken Park, which leads to the Arboretum
- Ten minute walk to Volunteer Park
- One block to a cafe, a Thai restaurant, a Mexican restaurant, two pizza restaurants, a fun bar, and a bike shop
- Easy walking distance to all the great offerings of Capitol Hill and Eastlake
- A short bike ride to the Burke-Gilman Trail

The house:
- 2 bedrooms, 1 full bathroom, 1000 sq. ft.
- Beautiful 1910 Craftsman condo with high ceilings, brand new hardwood floors, and rare never-painted woodwork
- First floor in a two-floor building with three other units
- A ton of natural light
- Nice kitchen with dishwasher, gas range, quartz countertops, stainless steel appliances, microwave, pots and pans, a few gadgets, etc.
- Washer and dryer in unit
- There is no TV, and I am into that. I do have a projector for movies.
- Common spaces are fully furnished
- Super fast internet that reaches every room
- Even though it is on a somewhat busy street, inside is somehow magically quiet
- Space for bikes, skis, gear
- Lots of house plants
- Dedicated off-street parking space available for $200/month--otherwise, easy street parking on nearby side streets

The room:
- Bedroom with two closets: one regular closet and one walk-in closet with great shelves
- Unfurnished--the room will be empty when you move in and the TV in the photo is gone
- View of the Olympics and the sunset out the window
- Great western natural light
- Brand new hardwood floor and fresh coat of paint since the photo was taken
- Quiet, on end of house furthest from street
- Ceiling fan

Me:
- 31 year-old woman working for a conservation non-profit downtown and running a small social enterprise on the side
- Photographer, amateur woodworker, into design--I like to make stuff
- Weekends spent mostly in the mountains--backcountry skiing, river rafting, hiking, mountaineering, or sticking around in the city to work on projects, see friends, or relax
- Weekdays I typically work 9-5 and spend my evenings hanging out at home, sharing a meal with a friend, or working.
- Ordinarily (not during this pandemic) I travel fairly frequently for work and fun.
- I like to keep things drama-free
- I value thoughtfulness, communication, honesty, community, and a good attitude

My partner is also living here with me through the beginning of August. He’s a 29 year-old graduate student focused on agricultural supply chain sustainability and will be doing an internship with a large local food company this summer. He’s very friendly, active, and easy to be around. Barring new pandemic-related restrictions, we’ll both be out in the mountains most weekends this summer.

Details:
- Available mid-May or June 1st (let’s talk)
- The lease will be month-to-month. I'm looking for someone who ideally intends to stay for a year or longer, but I'm also open to renting to someone just through the summer.
- The room is $1350 for one person
- Utilities are split evenly
- First months' rent is due to secure the spot. Last month's rent plus a $700 security deposit are due before you move in.
- No vaping/smoking/hard drugs
- No pets, though I love them

The vibe:
Professionals, grad students, med residents, teachers, artists, rad people of any kind are all welcome. For me home is primarily a sanctuary where I can recharge, but it's also a social space where friends will come over and a couple times a year we'll have a bigger get-together with more folks. The place has a lot of wonderful shared space and great personal space as well. I am looking for a roommate who is into spending low-key time together in the common area--hanging out, doing our own thing, listening to music, working on projects, reading, sharing a meal, watching a movie, you get the idea.

If we’re still under social distancing orders by the time you move in, the expectation is that you will adhere to those. We are being super careful and we expect the same.

The kitchen:
Everyone has their own food politics and passions. I am looking for someone who wants to share common things like cooking oil and spices together in a relaxed and fair way. I think it's important to have a foundation of thoughtfulness and cleanliness so the place doesn't get gross.

The cleanliness factor:
The place is in great condition and I'm looking for someone who will treat it like their own and split chores evenly without needing to be reminded. It has brand new hardwood floors, newly painted walls, new appliances, custom furniture built by myself and friends, etc. I am probably an 8 or sometimes a 9 on the cleanliness scale. I don't mind messes (we're all busy), as long as they don't persist. The kitchen never has dirty stuff in the sink for more than 12 hrs (the dishwasher makes this easy), but the house feels like people live in it. There are often projects being worked on, work spread on the table, ski/hiking/climbing/river gear drying or in various stages of being packed or unpacked. I just don't leave that stuff out in common spaces for multiple days.
