I’m a neurodivergent, cis-Black woman in my mid-30s who is self-employed. My business encompasses career coaching, youth engagement strategy, Anti-Black Racism education, writing and the delivery of speaking engagements and workshops for youth and professionals. I have lived on my own since the age of 12, so I am VERY accustomed to living with roommates and respecting the space of other people. I was a foster parent for upwards of 8 years, thus- I would say that I have quite a bit of patience, however- I am a stickler as far as cleanliness. I can deal with mess, but clean – is a whole other territory. Due to my character and neurodivergence I am quite introverted by nature, and when I am at home, I like to “mind my own business.” That’s not to say that I don’t want a roommate who I can be cool with and share a meal/drink with at times, however- I am not one to want to sit and socialize all day long. I very much value communication and honesty. I have friends over from time to time for drinks/dinner, however- it’s not an everyday ordeal. I love music, food, literature, art, podcasts, culture and travelling. I have a 7-year-old hypoallergenic dog ( she doesn’t shed) , a Bichon Frise + Maltese mix, named “Girl” ( don’t ask), and she loves people. She typically stays on the main floor of the apartment and is trained to go to the bathroom outside. I also travel a lot for extended periods of time (6+ months, thus you'd have the home to yourself a lot).

I am advertising the rental of an apartment in the Roncesvalles Village for March 1 occupancy.
This advertisement is for the takeover of TWO out of the 4 bedrooms (you’d have both, and the rooms pictured are what are available) The other two are mine (one bedroom, one storage space). The one room is huge and has a giant rooftop deck attached with sliding doors. The deck IS COMMUNAL- thus, whoever takes it over, must be comfortable making this a space that they do not mind people walking through on their way out at all hours of the day. My dog also enjoys going on the patio. It would be great for a creative space/work space, separate living room etc.
I prefer my living room on the main floor to remain mine and the second room upstairs to be used as a secondary living room for whoever takes over. It really can be two separate living spaces and everything can run smoothly 🙂
About the space:
The apartment is located in the beautiful neighbourhood of Roncesvalles, situated directly on Roncesvalles Avenue, with a King Streetcar (504) right in front of the door. It’s also a 10-minute walk to Dundas West Subway and 15 minutes to High Park. There are SO many food joints around, LCBO, Wine Rack, small family-owned markets, Loblaws, Sobeys, and it’s close to the lake/highway. The two rooms that are being rented, are on the second floor of the apartment and my room is on the main floor. The third room backs onto a rooftop patio with an amazing view of the whole street. It’s great for gatherings, catching some sun, drinking wine/coffee and reading a book. The kitchen and bathroom are shared. The apartment is unfortunately not accessible, as there are a lot of stairs. Your spaces will be unfurnished. I am also not looking to add any additional furnishings to the rest of the home.
There is coin laundry in the basement and it's highly suggested that you have an AC unit for the summer, for your areas.
Rent: $1750 ALL-INCLUSIVE (UTILITIES, PARKING, INTERNET, GARAGE STORAGE).
What I Need From You:
- Roommate agreement until September 2025 and then we can evaluate from there
- First and last month’s rent
- Identification photocopy
Who You Are:
You’re cool with not necessarily being best friends and are okay with me minding my own business at home. I’m hoping you do the same and don’t take things personally. You do not have any pets. You value communication and honesty. You’re clean. You’ve had roommates before, so you know how it goes. You’re not racist/homophobic and are comfortable with having Black and queer people in the space (this has previously been an issue so I like to mention it). You’re respectful. You’re not super loud. You preferably don’t work from home because two people working from home, in my experience, can be a lot. You pay rent on time. I personally don’t care how you manage to do it, but just do it.
Next Steps:
I’d love to schedule meet and greets IMMEDIATELY as I will be travelling for three months - so feel free to hit me here or via email at hello@vanessasmithers.com.
Please send a blurb about who you are, confirming that you do not work from home 5 days a week, as this is something that is super important to me.
